EMS Institute Inc, Sharon

About

The EMS Institute, Inc Sharon was established in 1998 to assist the EMS providers in Sharon Hospital’s service area. Funded primarily through an endowment and overseen by a volunteer board of directors comprised of EMS personnel, ER physicians and educators, the Institute provides speakers and courses on a variety of topics and maintains an inventory of literature, videos and training equipment that may be borrowed by EMS providers in our service area. We are an American Heart Association Training Center that places two certified instructors on each volunteer ambulance squad that we serve, as well as professional, affordable CPR training through out the community.
The EMS Institute of Sharon's mission is:

  • To promote the advancement of pre-hospital medical care
  • To promote, facilitate and provide for the education of Emergency Medical Service Providers
  • To enhance the educational opportunities in emergency medicine
  • To enhance communication among the EMS community
  • To establish the Sharon Hospital catchment area as a center of excellence in pre-hospital emergency care
  • To provide a coordinated outreach to the service area of Sharon Hospital

What We Do

The Emergency Medical Services Institute (EMSI), established in 1994, offers programs and training that support the women and men who work as Emergency Medical Services volunteers and staff in the northwest corner of CT and neighboring towns in NY State. Its mission is to enhance the quality of emergency care by promoting, facilitating and providing training opportunities to support all EMS squads in the Sharon Hospital catchment area.

Training demands are constant and ever-changing. New volunteer members require training. Seasoned volunteers need updated education and instruction in new procedures and techniques.

The value of EMSI offers to the community can be measured by the many ways emergency services have been enhanced through EMSI interventions and contributions to volunteer squads: CPR training, establishment of Heart Safe Communities, support for monthly case reviews, a day-long Symposium, opportunities to networking between the squads, and many more.
